It's been six months since we moved here to the little cabin in the woods on the shores of Lake Michigan. Moving from a four bedroom house with a 4 car garage in the city to this 1060 sq. ft. cabin with no garage 9 people, a dog and a cat sounds pretty much insane, right? Well, it is a little crazy but it's been amazing. Honestly, I wasn't sure how it was going to work with all of us in such a small space. The girls have a room, the boys have a large loft and we have our own little nest of a bedroom with my "studio" slash "desk" slash "office" and it's wonderful, most of the time. We all do get "cabin fever" every now and then and that's where the outdoors and the Lake are there to save us.
When we moved we got rid of 90% of what we had. We even got rid of most of our clothes only keeping about a week of outfits for everyone; knowing that we didn't have any room for dressers and limited closet space. We are learning to be more organized, but that's so much easier to do with less stuff. I remember thinking, "Where in the world am I going to keep towels". We had no place for towels. We do, Thankfully, have have two bathrooms. One with a tub the other with a shower, but no storage space to speak of and no linen closet. But we made it work, all thanks goes to my mom for suggesting a shoe organizer. Funny but it works...
So all in all it's been really nice. I can honestly say that there's just something really special about West Michigan and this area. We are only about 20 minutes south of Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Which, if it wasn't for the COVID, would be fully open with many out of town visitors and vacationers. I'm not sure what it'll be like here once all the "tourists" start coming. I'm hoping that all of that will start soon. I can't even imagine what will happen with all the businesses around us if they don't get their influx of out of town business that they usually depend on. It's been a bit strange with all the virus craziness. I spent many days depressed and somewhat fearful of all the uncertainty, as I'm sure any of you can relate to. It's been nice to have Darren (Mr. Bandt) home with us through our state "Stay Safe" order. Through all of this I found that I really missed being crafty and I am feeling much more myself since I joined on with a new craft company. I'm being creative again and it's so therapeutic.
